As a member-owned cooperative, Consumers Energy’s new headquarters incorporates unique features to serve member-owners and the general public. Story’s design-build team remodeled a 15,000 sq. ft. area that features an educational area to showcase various alternative energy forms, a community/training room and offices. To bring more light into the office area 30 Solatube skylights were installed. The lighting is controlled by a special dimming system that adjusts the light based on the amount of natural light. The 24,000 sq. ft. remodeled warehouse area and 9,000 sq. ft. addition for vehicle storage provides more space to maintain equipment and organize materials. The addition features a geothermal in-floor heating system.
