Story Construction was the general contractor for this final phase of construction work necessary for the Des Moines Water Works to produce water at this facility. The plant produces 10 million gallons of drinking water per day.

This is the first water plant of its size to use an ultra-filtration system and reverse osmosis system to filter the water.

Another unusual feature is the PVC-lined concrete tanks that are used for chemical storage.
