This October, Story Construction’s Small Projects Group completed renovations for a new UNBanking Center location for Community Choice Credit Union in Waukee, IA. It’s the second new location for CCCU this year, with Story completing a new center in Marshalltown in May.
As some financial institutions have moved away from the branch model, Community Choice has embraced physical locations and the experiences they can provide. CCCU now has 10 locations in central Iowa in addition to its headquarters in Johnston, and the two new locations bring the experience to new and existing members alike.
The renovations at both locations were designed by Story Construction’s in-house architects and designers.
“We were able to let the natural creativity of the Story Design team flow and didn’t constrict them with a pre-determined design,” said Matt Swim, Venue Operations & Development Manager at Community Choice. “They were familiar enough with our brand that they could sort of run free and come up with new ideas.”
The Marshalltown branch was a former cellular retail space and required minimal demolition. The Story team added a bathroom and break area, furniture wall systems to create three new offices, a conference room, finishes and furniture, and some of the unique elements often seen in Community Choice UNBanking Centers including a lollipop wall and refreshment stations.
Similar renovations were completed at the new Waukee branch in addition to a double-glazed wall assembly produced by DIRTT known as an “evil twin” wall that allows the wall cavity to be filled with whatever material is desired – in this case, brightly colored ping pong balls.
“We like to think differently in how we do things,” added Swim. “We’re looking forward to utilizing these features in the future.”
