Drake University – Quads Residence Halls

Drake University and MODUS Engineering came to Story Construction looking to solve an issue with ventilation in their Quad Residence Halls. The project spanned four buildings — Stalnaker, Crawford, Carpenter and Herriott — each including four floors and a basement. Each room previously included individual heating and cooling units, which created challenges natural air flow and moisture in the buildings. Story served as construction manager for this project. Since these residence halls held about 400 dorm rooms, it was imperative that Story and crew had the project done over the course of summer 2018. Demolition began immediately after spring semester, and Story’s CP2.0 process was essential in completing the project on time for students to move back in August.

PROJECT DETAILS:

• Set new roof top units via helicopter
• Core drilling through CMU and concrete walls to install new duct mains
• Installed supply and exhaust ducts in each of the 400 units
• Comfortable living space for largest portion of on-campus living
