Midland Power Cooperative

Midland Power Cooperative – part of the Touchstone Energy Cooperative that represents a nationwide alliance of member-owned electric cooperatives – serves 17 counties in Iowa. Story designed and built this new 10,000 sq. ft. office for Midland Power that sits on 13 acres just west of Boone Speedway in Boone, IA.

The design of the facility features masonry, metal planel and copper accent exterior at the entryway to the building. Glulam (glued laminated timber) is also featured at the main entrance and is reminiscent of powerline poles. The layout of the building reflects Midland Power’s need for a mix of semi-private office space, collaborative areas and larger meeting space.The building also features energy efficient geothermal heating and cooling with radiant heated flooring.

Design of the new building began in late 2018, and ground was broken in the fall of 2019 after selection of the site was finalized. The project was finished by summer 2020.
