REG Research Center
4,500 sq. ft.
Designer: Shive-Hattery, Inc.
Renewable Energy Group (REG) selected Story to serve as its general contractor to build a 4,500-square-foot research center in Ames, Iowa. As a renewable fuels company, REG was interested in purchasing materials made from recycled compounds for construction and incorporating energy-saving measured into the design and construction of its green lab space.
The renovation project converted existing open office space to laboratory space. Work consisted of selective demolition of concrete floors for new plumbing and remodeling offices to serve as chemical, gas and sample storage space. A new demising wall was constructed and the existing walls were extended to the deck and sealed for classification as smoke walls. The lab area has Medintech flooring, new light fixtures and a new exhaust system. The project was completed in four months.
