Designer: Story Design

What began as a project to update a reception counter at the front of Summit Ag’s office in Alden, IA turned into a new commons area and interior finishes updates to all offices, conference rooms and hallways.

Story Construction’s Small Projects Group performed most of the work, with Story’s in-house design team providing support for interior design elements.

“On projects like this, we really enjoy working with our clients to find interior finishes that they can get excited about and can’t wait to share with their employees,” said Alex Nickels, project designer with the Story Design team and a certified interior designer. “One of my favorite parts about this project in particular is the front reception area. Once the team selected the specially fabricated Summit Ag sign on the back wall, we selected the 3D raised gypsum tile accent material for the wall. We were able to use realistic rendering technology to make sure it would turn out how we expected.”

“Our primary goal was to update our office space and add more natural light,” said Eric Peterson, president of Summit Agricultural Group. “We had a great team to work with at Story, especially during the difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic. We were thankful to have a team that was easy to work with and flexible during this remodel project.”

The front desk is made of stone, and is hovered over by an 8″ drop down ceiling cloud and floating shelves. New carpet, paint and luxury vinyl tile flooring was installed throughout the office, and Summit Ag and the Story Design team worked with Storey Kenworthy on furnishings for the renovated open an individual office spaces.

“Another benefit of projects like this is collaborating directly with our Small Projects team during the design process,” added Nickels. “They can give feedback on constructability and insight into how the construction and installation should flow in an office setting where people are still going about their normal workdays.”
