105,000 sq. ft.
Designer: Hammel, Green and Abrahamson, Inc.
Combining superior acoustics for classical music with state-of-the-art stage systems for theatre and dance, the 105,000-square-foot Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center at the University of Northern Iowa is the premier performing arts center in northeast Iowa. The center serves as home for UNI School of Music ensembles, the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra and many international visiting artists. The facility also provides instruction space, classrooms, practice and rehearsal rooms, teaching studios and office space. The dominant feature of the center is the 1,600-seat Great Hall reminiscent of a 19th-century grand opera house. Other features include a 300-seat chamber music and recital space and a 125-seat hall that houses a new custom-made pipe organ.
