Later this spring, Bondurant-Farrar’s baseball and softball teams will take the field for the first time on brand new facilities adjacent to the district’s high school — the latest milestone in a long partnership between Story Construction and the Bondurant-Farrar Community School District.
In November of 2023, voters passed a $48M bond referendum funding three major initiatives: the new athletic facilities, a recently completed related arts addition to the high school, and a new elementary school currently underway.
The project to build the new baseball and softball facilities, as well as tennis courts, was bid in two phases, with phase one including bid package contracts for the earthwork, site utilities, and ball field construction. Phase two included eight bid packages addressing the full breadth of the remaining scope — which included tennis and pickleball courts, bullpens, batting cages, concessions, restrooms, storage, bleachers, press boxes, dugouts, a ticketing booth, and new pavement and entryways throughout the site.
Weather proved to be the project’s most significant construction challenge. The wet and muddy conditions typical of Iowa’s late fall and early spring required careful coordination of concrete and landscaping work to keep the project on schedule and deliver a timely turnover to the district.
The completed complex marks Story Construction’s eighth project with Bondurant-Farrar in the last 15 years — with a ninth, a new elementary school, already in progress.
