Story Construction served the Cedar Falls Community School District as Construction Manager – Agent on the district’s new 305,000-square-foot high school, delivering a comprehensive 21st-century learning environment for approximately 1,300 students. Story’s involvement began in 2017 — well ahead of the district’s bond vote — providing early budget development alongside INVISION Architecture and continuing with milestone estimates throughout design. Bids received in December 2020 came in approximately 5.2% under budget, allowing the district to select $8 million in alternates. Construction began in spring 2021 and was completed in summer 2024.

Story managed 25 bid packages totaling $89 million, encompassing the main high school building, a new stadium to the east, and the first phase of a 38,500-square-foot indoor aquatic facility. The aquatic facility’s first phase — constructed concurrently with the school — included the building shell and major HVAC components, with the competition pool and remaining interior finishes to be completed in a future phase.

The building includes academic and collaboration spaces, outdoor learning courtyards, a cafeteria and commons, media center, career and technical education labs (metals, woods, automotive), fine arts and family and consumer sciences classrooms, band and choir rooms, an auditorium, competition and auxiliary gymnasiums, wrestling and fitness rooms, and full administrative and food service facilities.
