Gateway Conference Center Remodel

This project for the Gateway Hotel & Conference Center in Ames aimed to provide more modern, sophisticated finishes throughout all of its conference spaces. This 17,400 SF renovation touched all conference rooms consists of the Garden, North/Central/South Prairie, North/South Meadow, Harvest, Cardinal & Gold, George Washington Carver, and Ada Hayden conference rooms. Restrooms and the main corridor surrounding the conference areas were remodeled as well.

The most frequently utilized space in the conference center, the Garden Room, features a shimmering gold cloud ceiling, complete with contemporary chandeliers and a wall of windows allowing natural light to enter the space. Cloud ceilings were added to the corridor outside the Garden and Meadow rooms, as well as a coffee bar and updated drinking fountains. The outdated wall mural in the main corridor was replaced, as well as new carpeting. The bathrooms feature sleek, black countertops and automatic toilets, sinks, and towel dispensers.

The unique challenge with this project was navigating construction around active events. The Gateway aimed to stay open for business during the course of construction, so many of the conference rooms were booked at various times throughout the course of the project. The importance of Construction Production 2.0, Story’s planning system, proved itself in this project as  construction activities had to be coordinated with careful consideration not to disturb booked conference rooms. The project team navigated these challenges with care, and ultimately delivered the project to the satisfaction of the hotel.
