Reach Church Renovation

More than 20 years after Reach Church had initially engaged Story Construction to build a new facility elsewhere in the Des Moines metro, it finally decide to stay put and re-invest in its current facility in Des Moines. The Church hired Story in November 2022 alongside Mantel Teter, and the team immediately began to assess the project budget and determine solutions to the Church’s needs. The Story Construction team provided the design team and owner with several cost iterations throughout the design phases of the project, which facilitated the alignment of the church’s budget with the desired scope of work

Phase 1 involved renovations to the building’s sanctuary/auditorium into a more modern worship and open community space, the addition of an elevator for improved accessibility, and renovations to the existing offices and classrooms to youth center space. Phase 2 involved finishes upgrades to the spaces untouched in Phase 1, including corridors and the existing gymnasium, where services were held while the sanctuary was renovated in Phase 1. The project also included painting of the building’s brick exterior.

Intentional coordination with all subcontractors was critical in keeping construction activity from affecting church programming, even when building-wide systems were being worked on. The renovation was completed from March 2022 to May 2023.
